To Tweet or Not to Tweet

Twitter is somewhat different from other social media channels. It's fast-paced and people expect brands to use it as a way to communicate up to date information. Twitter is built for dialog.

So, are you doing Twitter right?

While this tool may not be right for every business, if you are going to have a Twitter presence you have to have a plan.

1| Figure out how you want to use Twitter

Do you want to use it to post offers? Do you want people to communicate their questions? Do you want to give product updates or share industry information? Do you want to use it to post office photos and the more fun side of your company?

2| Plan your content ahead of time

Here's an agency secret: you know those brands that seem to have an infinite stream of quality content? They most likely use a content calendar to plan months of content at a time. This gets rid of panic posting content that may be low quality or not appropriate for your audience.

3| Leverage Twitter chats

You can find Twitter chats for a variety of topics. Find some that relate to your industry and join the conversation. This will expose your brand to like-minded individuals that may be interested in what you have to offer.

4| Interact with your audience

Social media should be like chatting over coffee, not like yelling into a megaphone. Engage with those who tweet at you and those who respond to your contest. You will build a higher quality follower list this way.

5| Use #hashtags and mentions

Hashtags and mentions are ways to tag topics and other Twitter users. Using both when it makes sense will help your content get found by people who may not be following you yet, but are interested in the type of topics you’re covering.

6| Have fun!

Social media is about being real. Be professional, but remember to keep the conversation light-hearted and interesting for your followers.
